Vollenweider Riesling Wolfer Goldgrube Kabinett (750ml)
In 1999, swiss born Daniel Vollenweider devoted himself to a dream: to run his own estate and grow Riesling wines that are crystal-clear, no-nonsense, yet sensual and lush all at once.
What started with close to zero money, but an overwhelming passion on 2.5 acres in the half-forgotten ›Wolfer Goldgrube‹, is one of the most renowned estates of the middle Moselle Valley today, highly decorated and of world wide reputation. The current approx. 12.4 acres of vineyards—mostly classified as steep or extremely steep slopes and not subjected to land consolidation—keep a high percentage of very old, ungrafted Riesling vines. They bear dry, sweet and noble sweet growths that are amongst the very best of the region. And that demonstrate impressively the potential of the vineyards spreading round the the once world famous wine trading town of Traben-Trarbach.
We will not deny that it was a bottle of a 1990 ›Scharzhofberg Auslese‹ by Egon Müllers that set the seal on the decision to found this winery?… not just because of it being a nice story, but also to pay honour to the history of the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer tradition we are a part of today.
