Sables Verts Saumur-Champigny Rouge 2023

Caroline and Herve's estate is comprised mostly of Cabernet Franc (15.5 Ha) and the remainder 1 Ha in Chenin Blanc. The name, Sables Verts, or “green sand”, comes from unique greenish sand that is a component in many of the best vineyards of Saumur-Champigny, and mixes with varying amounts of Clay-Limestone and Limestone-Silica in the topsoil which ultimately sits atop the Mother rock of limestone tuffeaux that underlies much of the region. This green sand is rich in glauconite which gives the Cabernet Franc in this area both its freshness along with a sense of concentration.

The cellars themselves are also dug into the tuffeaux and form a cool, damp home for raising the wines.
