Lucien Muzard Maranges Rouge 2023
At a Glance
- Domaine Lucien Muzard & Fils is run by the dedicated duo of brothers Claude and Hervé Muzard, the ninth generation to manage this family domaine that traces its history back to 1645.
- Santenay is home to their largest concentration of vineyards, which average 55 years of age, including 1er Crus Maladière and Gravières as well as villages-level Champs Claude. Over the years they have collected a nice assortment of terroirs in the neighboring villages of Maranges, Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault.
The Muzard brothers refer to the heavy clay soil in Maranges as "sol amoureux" or loving soil as the clay sticks to your boots. You can always tell when one has been working in the Maranges vines! Fermentation in tank with about 40% whole clusters. Aged 10 months, 30% in tank and 70% in 228-liter and 350-liter barrels, about 15% of which are new. 500 cases made.
