Falconry “Tha Crush” Syrah 2022
In the words of our bud and mind-behind, Colin Casey:
"This project began in 2019 with myself, Sarah + Iwo (Si Vintners), and our buddy Clement, who was winemaking assistant at Dard et Ribo at the time. We would work all day, then drink Dard + eat lots of Comté (Clem is from Jura, where he now farms his own vines). As bonafide Syrah freaks, the desire was to make something Northern Rhone-ish in Margaret River, which we actually didn’t think was possible. Enter Ben + Naomi at Blind Corner. Ben’s Syrah tastes very much like "Shiraz" (Bc it is), but we thought we’d do our damndest to give the fruit lots of time on the vine to develop flavor at moderate-alcohol, then ferment whole clusters and treat it like it was Gonon or a non-carbonic Dard. The result still has that signature Aussie Eucalyptus on the nose, but there is also a ton of the N. Rhone stuff in there, like black olive, pepper, blue fruit, iodine and so on. Hella proud of this one."
